Your Q3 ad campaigns are now graded.  You will receive the scores on each section, along with commentary specific to your group, in class; this post will document the process by which you should have produced your project — and general commentary about what went right and wrong.

First, an explanation of the feedback given in class.  Your dossier was scored along the four categories of the Ad Campaign Dossier Rubric distributed early in the process; similarly, this Print Ad Rubric, also distributed early in the process, breaks down the four categories of the creative component.  You can load the Overview/Breakdown, too, to remind yourself of the checklist you were given, since these pieces were incorporated into the two halves of the rubric.  Each category is scored twice: first, out of nine, according to the levels of effectiveness outlined through the DAMAGES rubric; second, out of 27, determined by multiplying the first score by three.  This yields two scores out of 100 — which, you’re right, means a 104/100 is possible.

This will be a quick post with one simple goal: to give you your scores on the adversarial that concluded right before break, and to direct you toward the metacognitive journaling assignment that you must complete in reference to your performance.

To put it even more simply, you should load the document below, find your score, and write about it.  Be sure to read this page first.

If you don’t know your student number, it is printed on all official documentation sent from the high school (e.g., your report cards); I can also get it for you, if that becomes necessary.  Here are your scores:

The assignment: Your prompt asked you to consider Baudrillard’s object-value system (or at least the reductive version of it I gave you) in the context of automobile advertising.  It specifically directed you to consider how the first two values (functional and exchange) are affected by the last two (symbol and sign).  You were invited to define that effect in a way that made sense to you, e.g., by looking at how symbolic value creates exchange value.  To develop your insight, you could have used the background reading, our class notes, and the Super Bowl ads we watched.

Perhaps most telling is that you were give a week longer to work at home on this quiz than I intended.  Snow, sleet, and one of the ineluctable laws of life gave you time to reflect, revise, expand, etc.; you should have handed in, therefore, an approximation of your best work.
