The assignment: This prompt (from quite a while back; sometimes, the wheel turns more slowly than others) asked you to compare and contrast two student responses through the DAMAGES outline of effective writing.  One student paper had earned an 8; the other, a 6.  Your task was to delineate and analyze the distinctions between the two.

This was a complicated prompt.  It required you to prepare in advance by annotating each student paper and, before doing that, revisiting their original prompt, which was also given to you on your midterm.  Then you needed to consider DAMAGES, isolating in each piece of writing the elements that differed most noticeably.  Finally, your response should have analyzed those differences in terms of their prompt, offering insight into both the adequacy of the 6 and the effectiveness of the 8.
